Established by Dr. D. S. Erram, the school was founded with a vision to ensure that deaf students have access to quality education, opportunities to develop their talents, and the confidence to build independent and dignified lives.
What began with limited resources has grown into an institution dedicated to education, skill development, communication, and empowerment.
For more than three decades, the school has remained committed to creating opportunities for students who might otherwise face barriers to education and employment.

The Beginning
The journey begins with a single rented classroom in a local municipal school — driven by courage, conviction, and a vision for a better future for deaf students.
Formal Establishment
Formal establishment as Dr. D. S. Erram Society for Physically Handicapped, followed by the expansion of educational activities to Saidapur, Karad.
Continuing the Vision
Continuing the vision of Dr. D. S. Erram through education, communication development, digital learning, vocational training, and opportunities for independent living.

It is with immense pride and humility that I lead the Dr. D.S. Erram School for Deaf — an institution founded on the enduring belief that every student, regardless of hearing ability, deserves a life filled with opportunity, dignity, and purpose.
For over three decades, our school has stood as a beacon of hope for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their families across Saidapur, Karad and the surrounding districts. We have seen children who once lived in silence blossom into confident, skilled, and self-reliant individuals — and that transformation remains our greatest achievement.
Our commitment is not merely to education, but to the holistic empowerment of each student — through Indian Sign Language, speech therapy, vocational training, and a nurturing community that celebrates every milestone. We do this entirely free of cost, because we believe no family should have to choose between a child's education and their daily bread.
